BFT Keypad & Intercom Repair: The Grapevine Owner’s Guide

If your BFT keypad or intercom has stopped responding, we stock BFT-compatible keypad modules, intercom handsets, and the wiring connectors these units use, and we install them across Grapevine, Colleyville, and Southlake. An installed BFT keypad replacement in Grapevine typically runs $285 to $520, and intercom handset or wiring repairs land between $180 and $390. We carry the common parts on our trucks, so most BFT keypad and intercom repairs are a single visit. Owners usually discover the failure the hard way: a delivery driver calls from the street, a family member is locked out after dark, or the keypad lights up but the gate will not move. Victor Salinas has been untangling BFT keypad wiring in this area for over two decades, and the fix is rarely as involved as the symptom suggests.

Which BFT Models This Applies To

BFT keypads and intercoms show up on a wide range of systems, but the wiring and mounting differences between series matter. The DEIMOS, RIGEL, and MITTO lines are the most common in Grapevine driveways, and each uses different keypad faceplates and connector pinouts. A RIGEL 5 keypad will not plug into a DEIMOS BT control board without a matching adapter harness. We also see the older THALIA and newer PHOBOS keypads on estate gates, and the intercom wiring differs again: PHOBOS uses a two-wire digital bus, while some THALIA-era intercoms needed a four-conductor run.

Before ordering anything, read the label on the underside of the keypad housing or inside the intercom handset. The model and production week are printed there. If the label is sun-faded or missing, send us a photo of the keypad face and the control board. We match BFT replacements by pin count, housing dimensions, and firmware series, not just by the name on the faceplate. We are an independent service provider, not a BFT affiliate, but we order OEM BFT parts weekly and keep quality aftermarket equivalents on hand for discontinued housings where OEM stock no longer exists. For BFT specifically, the aftermarket path makes sense only for the outer keypad housing; we will not install aftermarket control boards or intercom handsets, because the failure rate in Texas heat is not worth the savings.

Signs Your BFT Keypad & Intercom Repair Is Failing

  • Keys light up but the gate does not move. The keypad is getting power, but the relay or data signal to the control board has failed. On BFT units this is usually a worn membrane switch behind the keypad face or a corroded terminal block where the wire enters the housing.
  • Intermittent keypad response, worse after rain. Grapevine humidity and the clay-heavy soil here hold moisture against buried keypad conduit. Water seeps into the connection gland or the weep holes clog, and the keypad works only when it is dry. We pull the housing, dry the board, reseal the gland, and replace the corroded connectors.
  • Intercom audio is scratchy, one-way, or dead. The handset speaker or microphone has failed, or the wiring at the gate post has been damaged by landscape equipment. We test from the house station to the gate post and replace the section that actually failed, not the whole run.
  • Some buttons work, others need five presses. The membrane is worn through in high-use spots, nearly always the access code digits that get used daily. The fix is a new keypad face membrane or the full keypad module if the backing board is also cracked.
  • The keypad beeps but the display shows wrong characters or stays dark. The LCD or LED driver circuit has failed, usually from prolonged heat exposure when the keypad faces west. We see this on Grapevine gates with full afternoon sun, and the repair is a new keypad module rather than a component-level fix.

Replacement Cost & What’s Included

In Grapevine, a BFT keypad replacement with labor typically runs $285 to $520. Intercom handset and wiring repairs sit between $180 and $390. The spread depends on whether we are replacing a keypad face membrane or the full module, whether the intercom is a single house station or multiple stations, and how long the wire pull is from the gate to the house. Every quote includes the part, the labor, clean re-termination of all wiring, and testing through a full open and close cycle. We set the price before we turn a single screw, and the price we quote is the price on the invoice. There is no dispatch fee to come look at a Grapevine gate, and the work carries our 90-Day Done Right Promise: if it fails inside ninety days, we come back and fix it without arguing about whose fault it is.

DIY or Call Us?

BFT keypads and intercoms run on low voltage, typically 12 to 24 volts DC, so the shock risk is minimal. What is not minimal is the damage risk to the control board. BFT boards are sensitive to reversed polarity and shorted data lines. We have replaced more than one board where a homeowner crossed two wires on a Saturday afternoon and turned a $300 keypad job into an $800 board replacement. What an owner can safely do: check the keypad for physical damage, confirm the breaker for the gate circuit is on, and clean obvious debris from the housing vents. What we would not attempt without a multimeter and the wiring diagram for your specific board model: anything involving re-terminating the keypad cable or the intercom bus. If you are unsure, call (432) 237-4128. We will tell you over the phone whether it sounds like a simple swap or something deeper, and the estimate to come look is free.
